Founded in 2005, Pontual Money Transfer Group has become the leading company for money transfers between the US, Canada, and Brazil, handling 25% of remittances sent to Brazil in 2016. To support its global expansion, the group partnered with Luby, which developed the innovative USEND platform in 2018. Acquired by Banco Inter in 2022, USEND is now a key part of the bank’s internationalization strategy, integrated into its app and used by customers worldwide.
International remittances have traditionally been a bureaucratic process in the US, with 95% of transactions carried out manually through partner agents. Luby’s key challenge was to support the creation of a specialized platform that would digitize this entire process, making the service faster and more accessible – and thus USEND was born.
To ensure that the development addressed the group’s key challenges, Luby started with a discovery phase where we:
Following the discovery phase, we worked with the client to design a scalable product architecture and assembled a multi-disciplinary team to develop the solution from start to finish. The result was an efficient application that enables secure, fast remittances between the US and Brazil, delivered within the client’s time-to-market objectives.
With the initial solution validated, our team shifted focus to platform evolution, leveraging a methodology of continuous, incremental deliveries to drive rapid development.
Result: A highly efficient app enabling seamless remittances across multiple countries and currencies, providing users with a practical, cost-effective experience and reduced transactional fees.
Cybersecurity is vital for financial transactions, especially for global platforms like USEND. Our team:
– Implemented advanced anti-fraud tools and robust security policies.
Integrated ThreatMetrix by LexisNexis, a digital identity intelligence solution, to prevent fraud and ensure compliance with AML (Anti-Money Laundering) and KYC (Know Your Customer) requirements
Our data analytics and BI team ensured that USEND used its financial transaction data for strategic insight. Our work included:
– Developing a proprietary BI tool for USEND using JavaScript, which consolidated database information into actionable metrics through a user-friendly dashboard.
– Creating a data pipeline platform using DataMinds (in Java) to integrate external market data, enabling competitive pricing analysis.
To make USEND even more comprehensive, Luby’s Payment Solutions team facilitated key integrations:
– Direct integration with a Brazilian bank to enable Boleto (bank slip) payments, a feature widely used in Brazil.
– Integration with Paykii, an international payment system for transactions in Europe and Asia.
Improving the user experience was another focus. Luby’s experience team implemented the Zendesk customer service platform, ensuring multilingual support to meet the diverse needs of USEND’s global audience.
